If you’re a self proclaimed wellness junky then you’ve probably heard a thing or two about cryo therapy or cold plunge therapy. Basically, there are amazing benefits to exposing yourself to cold temperatures and it doesn’t have to just include cold plunges or being half naked in a cryo tank. You can start the cold exposure therapy for the free in your shower everyday by taking cold showers! This intimidating practice is becoming the newest way to improve your wellness routine without breaking the bank.
Benefits Of Cold Therapy
- You’re able to build resilience and mental strength, knowing you’re able to overcome a difficult feat, and trusting that your mind is truly in control. This has been my favorite benefit as I literally can feel the resiliency build as I once was terrified of thinking about my body under cold temperatures and now it does not phase me whatsoever.
- Helps activate brown fat which can help speed up our metabolism
- Helps to reduce inflammation and swelling
- Improves mood
- Creates a healthy glow to the skin, tightens pores for a beautiful matte finish
My Experience With Cold Showers
My experience in taking cold showers started with, “I would never subject myself to that unnecessary torture” to “I must do this everyday!” I started doing cold showers about 3 months ago but within the first two weeks the benefits were immediate for me! The mood boost, my mindset has swiftly changed, and everyday the showers have gotten easier and easier until I no longer even think twice about it. I’m actually looking forward to them! The past two months I had to triple check that the shower was all the way cold as I now feel it as an extension of my normal temperature which means, at this point, I’m ready to upgrade to the cold baths or cryotherapy. I can’t wait. The immediate benefits I saw with the cold showers have shown me how powerful the mind is and how subjective fear is. If you block fear from your thoughts, it ceases to exist. Easier said than done but truly, therapies like these can help build the physical and mental strength that is still necessary for this world. We’re not fighting mammoths in the wilderness anymore but there’s still threats in the world that require us to be sharp and buoyant!
