Wellness Treatments, Cold Plunge

Age: 25-35 Gender: Male Skin tone: Olive Skin

I tried this treatment out recently after years of hearing about all its benefits in boosting the immune system & metabolism, reducing inflammation, etc. The wellness studio I went to recommended starting off with 9 minutes in the infrared sauna, 3 minutes in the cold plunge, and another 3 minutes back in the sauna. The sauna was comfortable and definitely had me working a sweat within the first couple minutes. The cold plunge was set to 48 degrees but felt colder especially having just been in the sauna. I had an easier time getting my legs in the water but as soon as I dunked the upper half of my body, I had an immediate rush in adrenaline as I attempted to acclimate to the sudden drop in temperature. The first minute was TOUGH but as I began to slow down and control my breathing, it gradually became bearable. By the 2nd minute it was oddly relaxing and peaceful, though my fingers did start feeling slightly numb. Before I knew it, the 3 minutes were up and I was able to warm back up in the sauna before re-starting the process over again.

I had rented the private contrast therapy room for 30 minutes and was able to repeat the process twice using their recommended timing. Obviously people can tailor to their personal preference but I felt the 3 minutes in the cold plunge was just enough. Long enough to reap its benefits but short enough that I wasn’t suffering from hypothermia. As I mentioned before my fingers did start getting numb so the second time around I kept them out of the tub which was much more comfortable for me and would highly recommend if it’s your first time doing this treatment as it was for me.

I can’t say it improved my immune system or boosted my metabolism, but I definitely left feeling extremely relaxed and energized to take on the rest of my day. I had also gone in feeling a slight muscle soreness around my left trapezius that seemingly went away after the treatment. All in all, it was a great experience. A bit pricy at $75 but worth it IMO.
